To begin with I had a phone conversation with Val. During this call we discussed lengths for The Vote intro and some ideas we both had. We decided that 20 seconds sounded about right for the intro. We spoke about different ideas mainly involving political buildings around the UK. Val highlighted my Eastpak project as a possibly benchmark for me to work from with this one. She wanted the same style but with a political subject.
In a later email I suggested that there are going to be issues and that i am going to be using a graphical representation in place of the photographs (24th Feb). I didn't receive another email back until 12th March which squashed the time I had to complete the work considerably. I now had 14 days until deadline and panicked a lot. All my time now had to be focused on completing the art work and getting an edit together in time. I feel this has effected the development of my ideas massively as I pretty much had to do it whilst creating the artwork. No doubt my blog and sketchbook have suffered gravely over the last few weeks.
Once i'd heard back from Val (12th March) we discussed some ideas and I said I'd have to continue from there without doing any further changes until after I've handed the project in for uni. I did however volunteer myself to work with her after i'd handed in for this deadline. I saw her today and she complimented me on completing the work without any structured brief and limited time. I am very happy that she could see the potential in my work already and am looking forward to working with her at a later date.
Overall i've found this project a lot more stressful than others. I think this was mainly down to the lack of communication happening. This caused me to self direct a lot of the project with some very rough guidelines along the way from Val. I did doubt my work last week and I didn't believe i'd get it finished to a standard that everyone would be complimentary of. I think i've grown in self confidence because of this and I believe that I've made something that is worthwhile looking at. I look forward to sealing the deal with Latest. It would be fantastic to see some of my work on their Tv channel in the near future.
