T-shirts |

Today we discussed what we'd be wearing for the show. I came up with the idea of having same coloured t-shirts, or possibly getting prints done on them. however after getting some quotes for printing we realised we couldn't afford it. It was just over £50 for printing + tshirt cost. So nearly £80 for enough t-shirts for everyone!

Copyright

Fair use is using copyrighted materials to teach, critical comment or parody. There are guidelines however to how much of that certain material you can use.

Fair use is only guideline, however copyright is law. If you affect the market value of the product by reproducing it then you’re breaking the copyright law. Competing with the original.

Crediting work means you can get away with fair use, but this is still a grey area. It all depends upon how much is used. Transformative work is guided as being fair use, however a blatant copy will be less acceptable under copyright.

Work goes back into the public domain a certain period of time after the death of the artist/ original copyright owner. This copyright can be reinstated if the original copyright owner so chooses.

Creative Commons - designed to make it easier for people to share and allow others to build upon their work. Copyright owners can state limitations that allow people to make money or not and how much they’re allowed to develop work.

Work Submitted | pt1

I chose this piece to be printed for the show. Its my favourite piece of illustration work that could be printed at A1 without pixelating.

Here was the other choice which I'd have much preferred to be in the show, alas it was too small to be blown up onto an A1 poster.

Work submitted | Final

I’ve submitted two movs and two pieces of print to be considered for the show.

Here they are.

I chose the snow globe piece because it shows my illustration skills and commitment. I’m not that happy with how it looks on paper because i feel the detail has been lost a bit, which is why i’ve submitted a second poster as well.

The Newquay poster is a collaboration between my photography and typographical skills. I’m really happy with the fonts i’ve paired together.

I’ve included my motion graphics piece that I created in answer to the YCN brief. I am most proud of this piece. It again encompasses both my camera ability and software skills. I also spent a fair amount of time putting together the audio for it. It’s the best piece of work I’ve made so far for this degree.

Selfie | Portfolio

The top image is prepared for upload to my portfolio. The lower one is the original. I shot both of these using my 500d and a desk lamp held in front of my face. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out but I would have rather shot with more light.

Portfolio site | Inspiration

I want to have a minimalistic looking website for my portfolio. I am allowed to use tumblr templates for this and i think it would be wise for me to do so considering we aren’t marked on our coding for this project.

I’ve found some inspirational website and posted them below. One of the ones I’ve posted below is of the Spotify Discover page. I think the layout works well. All the posts are close together but none are the same size. It allows for captions to be different lengths without ruining the containing elements form. If i can find a theme that’s similar to this I would be pleased. I am however, going to be using a lighter shade than black. I would like to imitate the header i made for my responsive website in first year. The image went into a gradient and then into the block colour for the rest of the site. This is a trait i’d like to continue.

Here is a screenshot of my responsive site header, and the discover page on google. Imagine the discover page as being white and then you will be able to see the kind of mock up look i'm going for. Maybe in my next post i will put together a mockup.

Branding | PT2

Unfortunately my design was rejected after much deliberation. I will admit I was being a bit arrogant and thought it would get chosen.

Dan Mole was selected to do branding, but that was soon dropped as the majority of class voted for Jess. Her branding is really different, quirky and fun. I’m glad her’s was selected although there were other strong contenders.

Here's one of the logos Jess came up with:

Branding | PT1

As part of this personal and professional assignment I’ve got to design a branding style for the show.

In the previous post I discussed how our class has opted to go with the name i came up with - dots per inch. I’m really glad it got chosen and i think the concept was well liked by everyone in the class.

I mixed up the branding styles between two names - RGB and Dots Per Inch. I used RGB colours for the dots and the “D”, “P” and “I”. This works really well in my opinion. It keeps it all relevant.

Here’s my first logo attempt, and the full poster design.

Work Submitted | pt2

A few posts ago I wrote about my disappointment regarding the print work i'd submitted for the show. Since then i've made a new piece. It utilises my design and photographic skills, a far more accurate representation of myself. I also feel its a more professional looking piece overall.

Here's the final print:
